During the 1950s, an Air Force contract led to the development of the Cytec HT-424® modified epoxy-phenolic film adhesive. While it performs well for bonding metal-to-metal and sandwich composite structures, the original version has a short outlife of only five days, and it contains asbestos, with off-putting phenolic smells.

A Closer Look at Mako’s AF-1424

- Federal Specification MMM-A-132
- Military Specification MIL-A-25463, Type II and Type III
However, unlike the Cytec HT-424® adhesive film, our equivalent doesn’t include asbestos in its formulation. It offers far better environmental safety. Since it lacks phenol formaldehyde, there is no strong phenolic odor. In addition, our equivalent can produce smaller batch sizes, with a longer outlife and enviable durability.
